Electrocide
In February 2002 a couple of blokes wandered into the Baria offices in London. One of them wore a long Crombie coat with his hands stuffed into the lining and the other was clad in the kind of costume an axe murderer would wear if he was going on a fishing trip. The shorter one of the two pulled the shopping bag from his head and profered the contents to Claire, the terrified intern. She wasn't sure if it was a severed head or the remains of his sandwich that she held in her trembling hands. "Play this" he said.Breaking all the rules she put the disc on the turntable and amazingly enough a really great song pumped out. "Right" he said at the end of the track - " Call me when the cd's are ready". Two months later another record arrived. "Grant wants to know why you didn't call" he said. "He didn't leave his number, " replied Claire (the intern) "Right" said the oily geezer and left. Another 6 months go by when suddenly Fisherman Frightening came back into the office.(By now Claire has gone back to University determined to work in any other industry but ours.) "Done it yet?" he asked Jason from the Lovemakers, who was just passing through) "Of course! Loads of times!..... YOU?" said Jason, doing the best queer eye impression you have ever seen. Silence. Glare. Exit stage right. A few weeks later in they come again. This time we signed them. Last thing we heard Mr Grant was in a Mongolian Yurt somewhere in the Welsh mountains with only the SAS and sheep for company.Mr Waters is studying for a degree in business with the Open University. Enough said. |
